Best sound for $$$; worst reliability Dec 29, 2010
By Bran Englander

These monitors have excellent sound. I doubt you'll ever hear a complaint about them on that score. There are none even close to as good for the money. They are, however, one of the most unreliable monitors on the market. Capacitors burn out and power supplies stop working. Many, many complaints of this kind found on the web, with entire websites devoted to fixing them. A poor design. Avoid.

Not sure what happened ! Sep 29, 2011
By Mr Lucky I bought a pair of these years ago like 7 years ago or so , paid 399.99 for the pair they served me well to day i still have them and they are Keepers...I took them apart and they are built really well right down to the boards and heat sinks amp and crosovers never had a problem with them...
These ones ar made in Korea and are built like a tank , i think they moved the manufacturing to china and the quality might of went down hill , the price is lower but as cheap as they make things in china in the last decade , they can afford to send out replacement parts or what ever.
I had the same propblem with an orange amp that i had , the Korean one sounded bad ass , but they too moved to china one day i stopped buy and checked one out side by side and it was flat sounding...weird...
well all i can say is best to look for an older set...
Or just change the brand totally.

Best Sound for the Price Jan 12, 2011
By J. Schroeder I listened to a lot of monitors before landing on these. They sound great, and the price was right.
Having written that, they are not the most reliable speakers out there. You might want to buy a warranty, or buy from a near-by 'bricks and mortar' vendor. I returned two sets to Alesis under the manufacturer's warranty. Both sets failed during 'burn in'. However, my current third set has worked reliably now for more than a year.
Nice monitors Jan 27, 2012
By Nathan Stewart Nice monitors, great price. Not as bass heavy as some reviews would indicate - I suspect that has a lot to do with the listener & the room location. Even sounding, just loud enough (barely - they are monitors after all)
They will fail Jan 25, 2012
By Bjørn Borud I've had these monitors for some years now and I'd like to point out that regardless of how they sound, they are not a brilliant purchase. The PSU in these monitors was designed badly and will eventually fail. Replacing the PSU is quite expensive -- and, as it turns out, entirely pointless, since they will only replace it with another badly designed PSU. The PSU has several problems, but the one that is likely to occur first is that one of the resistors will fry one of the capacitors. The resistor gets too warm and is mounted close to the cap. If you are handy with the soldering iron you can fix this yourself for a few cents (which beats buying a new PSU).
Of course it would have beet better if the device was properly designed in the first place or if Alesis had made sure to replace the broken PSUs no questions asked. Given the number of howto-videos on the net for fixing this product and the lack of response from Alesis should tell you something about how seriously the company takes this (ie. not at all).
Do not buy. Broken by design.
