Everybody needs to protect their hearing, especially singers, musicians and voice over performers. So you are wise to wear noise reducing headphones while flying or in other noisy environments. I always do, but my ridiculously expensive noise-reducing cans were useless when it came time to record auditions and sessions on the road. Thats because the noise-reduction circuitry couldnt be turned off and so they could not function as regular headphones. As you know, when we're recording in less than perfect acoustic locations - like hotel rooms - we NEED to hear the noise in the room so we can do our best to mitigate it, through microphone placement, software tools or a portable sound booth.
